Welcome to Puppy Protection Rescue Group. My name is Nancy Norman. I am a die hard animal lover and animal advocate. They say some things you are just born with, and the passion and understanding I have for dogs has been with me my entire life.
The first job I ever had was rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing turtles at the Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach, Florida. It was then that I realized I wanted to take this principle of rescuing, rehabilitating and release and apply it to the most amazing creatures on the planet…Dogs!
Founding Puppy Protection of Palm Beach
I began rescuing dogs on a very small scale for many years begining in 1994. This, eventually led to me founding my own 501 (c) (3) not for profit dog rescue-Puppy Protection of Palm Beach in 2006. Saving dogs that have been discarded, rehabilitating them, and then finding the perfect furever homes has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my life.
Volunteering and Foster Friends in Greenville
In 2012, I made a big move from South Florida to Greenville, South Carolina. One of the first things I did was to reach out to the local animal shelters to volunteer my dog training skills to them and the homeless animals in their care. I began to work with Greenville County Animal Care; Greenvilles’ open admission animal shelter. (An open admission shelter is publicly funded, therefore can not turn away any animal. These types of animal shelters are always at maximum capacity and are forced to put animals to sleep due to lack of space.) In order to help to save these “at risk” animals, I founded a volunteer group called Foster Friends for the sole purpose of giving these animals a safe, tempotrary place go.
Expanding Efforts with Match K-9 Rescue & Rehab
Seeing the great need in Greenville, Sc, I decided to continue on my recue mission and changed my dog rescue to Match K-9 Rescue & Rehab, Inc. Along side with Foster Friends I continued to rescue dogs and puppies locally as well as from Clayton County, Georgia where every dog even resembling a Pit Bull was not even eligible for adoption due to local breed ban laws at that time.
Launching Puppy Protection: A New Focus
After many years, I began to shift my rescue efforts in a new direction and Puppy Protection was born. Puppy Protection rescues retired breeding dogs and overflow puppies from trusted breeders before they go to auction. Every breeder we work with is fully vetted. (I would never support a backyard breeder or puppy mill.)
The dogs and puppies we rescue come from family farms and professional breeders. All of the breeders we partner with are kind and compassionate and have a true love for the breed(s) they work with. Many of the breeders that we partner with even do genetic testing to assure the healthiest puppies. All puppies are well socialized with children from the time they are born.
Health, Training, and Finding the Perfect Home
Every dog or puppy we rescue is fully evaluated by a licensed veterinarian. Once admitted into our rescue, they each are again evaluated by our local licensed veterinarian. They are then spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. We address any medical issue an individual may have, such as an umbilical hernia or need of a profession dental cleaning for adults.
Because I am a professional dog trainer, each dog or puppy receives a full behavioral and training evaluation followed by foundation skills training. This includes but is not limited to basic obedience, leash training, on and off leash recall, crate and house training. Each dog is also exposed to a variety of dogs, large and small, to assure a social and well-rounded family friendly dog.
Once we know the personality, needs, and preferences of each individual dog or puppy, we search for the furever family that will be the perfect fit!
Rescue is definitely is a labor of love, but it fills my soul each and every day!
