Build key puppy skills through the trusted American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. program
Puppy Training for Strong Foundations
The American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. Puppy Program gives new dog owners the guidance they need to build strong early habits. It promotes responsible ownership and helps puppies develop the skills that support a confident and balanced life. The program rewards owners who invest in early training and sets a clear path toward long-term success.
Welcome to the American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. Puppy Program
This program was created to support all dogs and their owners. The goal is simple: encourage responsible ownership and provide young dogs with essential training. Puppies learn key behaviors, and owners gain clear direction during their first months together.
The program is built for owners who complete a basic training class with their puppy. It recognizes the time, effort, and commitment that shape healthy routines and positive behavior.
Program Benefits
Training classes strengthen communication between you and your puppy. They also create safe spaces for early socialization with other dogs. In a S.T.A.R. Puppy class, you receive guidance on common challenges such as house training, chewing, and early obedience.
The program introduces practical skills like coming when called and sets the stage for the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Program.
How the Program Works
Puppies up to one year old may participate. You’ll attend a puppy or basic training class that runs for six weeks. An American Kennel Club Approved CGC Evaluator teaches the class and administers the S.T.A.R. Puppy test at the end.
When your puppy passes, you receive an application to submit to the American Kennel Club. The program welcomes both purebred and mixed-breed puppies.
What You Receive
Once enrolled, your puppy earns the official American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal. Your names are added to the American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. Puppy records, and you receive a full support package that includes:
- A frame-ready certificate confirming your puppy’s status
- The American Kennel Club Puppy Handbook with helpful training information
- A monthly email newsletter with tips and updates for ongoing learning
The program keeps owners informed and encourages steady progress beyond the first training class.
